| Abstract: | (from the chapter) Ayurveda is an ancient philosophy of life and longevity, which also provides a fairly complete system of health. It is widely accepted and practiced in the Indian subcontinent. Those with chronic health conditions, such as chronic pain, degenerative and neurologic disorders, and digestive diseases are likely users of Ayurvedic treatments. This chapter briefly describes Ayurveda and examines the scientific evidence concerning the usefulness of Ayurvedic herbal treatments and yoga for pain with a special focus on the principles of Ayurveda, herbs, and yoga.
