Abstract: (from the introduction) In compiling this book on spiritually oriented interventions, it was our hope that readers will become more sensitive and effective at recognizing the important role that religion and spirituality can play in the lives of many clients. Yet our primary goal for this book is to go a step further. We hope to give readers an in-depth look at how to consider both Western and Eastern spiritually oriented interventions in clinical practice. Readers will take away applied insights about how to implement spiritual interventions in their therapeutic practice. Overall, great effort has gone into the book to ensure that each chapter is practitioner “friendly” while also being firmly grounded in theory and research. By bringing together writings of highly regarded scholar–practitioners from diverse Western and Eastern spiritual and religious backgrounds, we hope that Spiritually Oriented Interventions for Counseling and Psychotherapy will become a valuable tool for equipping psychotherapists to work with sacred themes in clinical interventions.
