| Abstract: | This article presents updates on research relating to physical fitness and health as of December 2005. Three hours of vigorous exercise, such as running or swimming, per week reduces stroke risk by 26 percent, according to a study that tracked 47,721 Finnish adults over a 19-year period. Hatha yoga does little for cardiovascular fitness, researchers at Texas State University in San Marcos found. A yoga class required 53 percent less exertion and burned 53 percent fewer calories than walking on a treadmill at 3.5 mph, says the study in the Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research. |
