Abstract: (from the preface) Religious and mystical traditions and psychotherapy claim to offer a sense of well-being to human beings. These disciplines propose many methods to acquire holistic healing. This study is a psychological investigation of religious and mystical traditions as they relate to the enhancement of health and well-being on the physical, mental, and spiritual planes. It analyzes how mental imagery techniques were employed as a tool to achieve physical, psychological, and spiritual transformation. The process of investigation reveals the relevance of other substantial supports such as the senses, psychophysical exercises, breath control, body postures, faith, and belief. These supplementaries combine with imagery techniques, which lead to concentration of the mind. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2012 APA, all rights reserved) (preface)
