Abstract: Discusses yoga as a lifelong process of understanding the necessities of life, managing the mind and human potential, and transforming the personality. It is suggested that imbalances in the mind create mental conflicts (anxiety, stress, depression), which can create deep psychological problems called samskaras. Yoga has devised certain systems of practice to deal with these imbalances. The practice of asana helps in the management of the body and health, providing physical balance and harmony. Pranayama, mudras and bandhas are ways in yoga to channel the physical forces, providing the opportunity to deal with the manifest mind. This is seen to help in the development and shaping of personality at all stages. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2002 APA, all rights reserved)
