| Abstract: | Discusses 4 major components in the practice of yoga: physical postures/asanas, relaxation, meditation, breath control. Several topics are presented: (1) Yogic breathwork, consciousness, and the transpersonal, (2) Western findings, hypnosis, and ultradian rhythms, (3) Rhythmic disruptions, stress, and psychophysiological disorder, and (4) Clinical applications. There are many theories of hypnosis yet each contributes to the overall understanding of this phenomenon. In the author's clinical work, success was found using ultradian self-hypnosis with high-functioning, motivated adults. Rather than posing external suggestions other than comfort to the client, and letting his or her unconscious do the work, in this approach the client poses his or her own problem to the unconscious, and the unconscious proceeds on its own course. |
