| Abstract: | Despite the recognition of the relevance of the system of yoga to psychotherapy, an indigenous psychotherapeutic paradigm based on yoga has yet to emerge. This paper examines the nature of yogasanas (body postures) from a psychological standpoint. It appears that asanas, which are body maneuvers, may give exercise to various tissues, organs, and organ systems of the body and provide an avenue to deal with character armours, attitudes, and tensions to bring about healthy changes in several psychopathological conditions.
